Ciao
I'm Pasquale — eatsjobs in most places online. I build things for the web, and
this is where I'll write about them.
The short version: I'm a Senior Frontend Engineer at Scandit, working on the Web SDK — barcode scanning that runs in a browser, which is a more interesting constraint than it sounds. Before that, eDreamsOdigeo here in Barcelona, luisaviaroma in Florence, and Docomo Digital before that. Eleven-odd years of frontend, four of them at Scandit.
I grew up in Tropea, on the Calabrian coast, studied in Rome and Florence, and have been in Barcelona since 2019. Away from a screen I'm usually walking, playing beach volleyball or football, swimming, or testing my neighbours' patience with a guitar.
As for what lands here, I expect it to be some mix of:
- The web platform itself, and how far you can get using it directly before reaching for a framework. This site is a small argument for that position: hand-written HTML and CSS, a handful of ES modules, no bundler.
- Web Components, which I keep coming back to. type-writer is one of mine, and it's typing my name on the homepage right now.
- Testing awkward things — cameras, media devices, hardware you can't reasonably attach to CI. media-mock came out of exactly that problem.
No schedule and no newsletter. Just notes as I go.
