A short introduction: who I am, what I build, and what I expect to write about here.

<p>I'm Pasquale — <code>eatsjobs</code> in most places online. I build things for the web, and this is where I'll write about them.</p> <p>The short version: I'm a Senior Frontend Engineer at <a href="https://www.scandit.com/">Scandit</a>, working on the Web SDK — barcode scanning that runs in a browser, which is a more interesting constraint than it sounds. Before that, eDreamsOdigeo here in Barcelona, luisaviaroma in Florence, and Docomo Digital before that. Eleven-odd years of frontend, four of them at Scandit.</p> <p>I grew up in Tropea, on the Calabrian coast, studied in Rome and Florence, and have been in Barcelona since 2019. Away from a screen I'm usually walking, playing beach volleyball or football, swimming, or testing my neighbours' patience with a guitar.</p> <p>As for what lands here, I expect it to be some mix of:</p> <ul> <li><strong>The web platform itself</strong>, and how far you can get using it directly before reaching for a framework. This site is a small argument for that position: hand-written HTML and CSS, a handful of ES modules, no bundler.</li> <li><strong>Web Components</strong>, which I keep coming back to. <a href="https://github.com/eatsjobs/type-writer">type-writer</a> is one of mine, and it's typing my name on the homepage right now.</li> <li><strong>Testing awkward things</strong> — cameras, media devices, hardware you can't reasonably attach to CI. <a href="https://github.com/eatsjobs/media-mock">media-mock</a> came out of exactly that problem.</li> </ul> <p>No schedule and no newsletter. Just notes as I go.</p>
